Welcome, and Thank You

A quick little hello, welcome, and thank you for visiting my website and blog.

Originally from Southern Ontario, I am newly back in the area and looking to help people achieve a greater sense of home through Common Purpose Design. I’ve always been a creative person and realized a few years ago that my true passion was in interior design… something that had been right in front of me for basically my whole life.

It began as a child, calling for my Mom to come look at how I’d arranged all of my toys on the shelf rather than playing with them. In high school, I worked all summer to buy new furniture and paint for a redesign of my bedroom. Later, I was desperate to get to college so that I could decorate my dorm room, and then even more desperate to get my first apartment so that I could decorate not just a bedroom, but a living room, too. Imagine my delight when my husband and I rented a whole home – it was magic! And then I had a yard that I could work on making beautiful, too.

“… I hold firm in my belief that a home should be a reflection of its occupants”

I’ve always loved designing the spaces in which I’ve lived, and I’ve often been the sounding board for family and friends when they’re considering changes in their own spaces. So, in 2016 I finally made the change and enrolled in an Interior Design program and pivoted my career.

You’ll find that my aesthetic exists outside of trends, that I put function above all else, and that I hold firm in my belief that a home should be a reflection of its occupants. I think each space should tell a story, provide a sense of lived-in comfort, and feel unpretentious.

I take such pleasure in helping people design their homes and would love the opportunity to help you, too. I’ve put a lot of thought into the services that I offer to make design affordable and accessible, so please take a few minutes to click around to see what’s available. I’ll be adding to this blog on a weekly basis, so come back soon!

Again, thank you for visiting today – it truly means the world.

Laura
